Life. Every person has their own take on it. For some, life is an adventure that has its ups and downs and should be lived at its fullest. For others it is a gift. However for some, life is a challenge where they need to fight to survive.

You see, it’s not adversity nor the number of challenges that will determine the quality of your life – it’s your attitude towards these adversities and challenges that does. And developing the right attitude requires resilience.
The Institute of Social and Emotional Intelligence defines resilience as perseverance and diligence in the face of setbacks. It is also the capacity to recuperate quickly from experiencing problems and difficulties.

So how can resilience help us enjoy life and live it to its fullest?

Resilience enables us to have the right mindset in dealing with difficulties.

Difficulties, problems and challenges will always be a part of life. That is why we should always be equipped and have the right mindset to face them. Resilience enables us to do that.

Resilient people view difficulties, problems and challenges as temporary and can be surpassed. They know that if they focus more on finding the solutions instead of dwelling with the problem, they’ll get faster results and have more time with other things in their life that matter more. They don’t take take challenges to heart but instead welcome them with open arms and live their lives to the fullest.

Resilience makes us open to new experiences and growth.

During our lifetime, we will go through a series of challenges and failures. Resilience teaches us to value and learn from every experience we have – be it good or bad. It helps us understand that with every new experience, there is an opportunity to grow and become a much better version of ourselves. Being open to new experiences makes us enjoy more of what life has to offer because we won’t hinder ourselves to try new things and go on adventures more often.

Resilience gives us the courage to dream big.

People without resilience have low self-esteem, self-belief and self-worth. They often just go through the motions of life with the thought of just surviving one day after another. They think that of big dreams as a luxury with which they don’t have time to put into. They think so little of themselves, that dreaming big seems unachievable.

Resilient people on the other hand, have the confidence they need to dream big. They consider these dreams as something that can be achieve as long as they put their heart and mind into it.

Dreaming big dreams makes you enjoy life more because you it gives you a sense of purpose and something to look forward to each day. Dreaming big also makes you have a certain sense there is still a lot more to life than what you have.

Being happy is always a choice and it’s a choice that you should take. You only have one life and it’s always up to you on how you live and spend it. You can spend it with a lot of fears and worries or you can spend and live it with resilience by welcoming challenges with open arms and making the best of every moment. I suggest you go with the latter. Live life to the fullest because you deserve it!
